Inside Track
A sports platform
built for real fans
Inside Track was created as part of a UCLA Extension UX Design project exploring how digital products can better support modern sports fandom. Instead of focusing on a single aspect of sports fandom, I explored how one platform could connect the different moments that make someone a fan.
- UX Research
- Visual Design
- Prototyping
- Testing
The starting question
What does it mean to be a sports fan today?
To better understand sports fandom, I interviewed fans across different sports, ages, and stages of life: from casual viewers and new parents to recreational athletes. I also conducted a competitive analysis and visited SFMOMA's Sports exhibition to explore how sports brands create identity, emotion, and belonging beyond the game.
01
Sports fandom creates belonging.
"It's tradition to watch certain games together with friends or family."
02
No single platform captures the full fan experience.
"I check scores on ESPN, watch highlights on YouTube, and read breaking NBA news on RealGM."
03
Fans don't just watch sports, they play them.
"Sports is about getting physically healthy and having an outlet."
04
Fans look for ways to stay connected beyond game day.
"Beyond watching games with friends or family, I wish there were other ways to engage."
Insight
Sports fandom is one continuous journey of watching, connecting, and participating. Today's sports platforms treat those moments as disconnected experiences.
ProblemFandom goes beyond the game
Sports fandom extends far beyond the game itself. It's a way to connect with friends and family, build traditions, and create a sense of belonging.
Yet today's digital experience is fragmented, forcing fans to jump between multiple apps for scores, highlights, news, and community.
